The best cars of 2016 – our predictions for the top short term lease vehicles of the year
In 2015 we increased our fleet to over 600 cars nationwide, offering a huge range of vehicles available on short term lease. We noticed certain makes and models were gaining in popularity compared to previous years so here are our predictions of which cars will be the most popular leases in 2016.
The rise of SUVs
A trend we saw developing throughout 2015 was the increase in the number of leases of small and ‘crossover’ mid-size SUV’s, in particular the Audi Q3, Volvo XC60 and the Nissan Qashqai, which was named What Car’s favourite small SUV of 2015 .
These particular models have proven especially popular with business and contract hire due to their refined and efficient engines being a cheaper option to run for fleet buyers. They’re also a great ‘crossover’ option, offering more versatility than your average road car but without the price tag of a premium SUV.
The popularity of the small and mid-size SUV’s shows no signs of slowing down and we predict they will continue to dominate throughout 2016.
City cars on the up
Premium small cars such as the BMW 1 Series, Mercedes A Class and Audi A1 are also expected to continue to grow in popularity, having been some of our most leased vehicles of 2015. Perfectly combining practicality, luxury and drivability in a compact shape, it’s no surprise they represent one of the fastest growing sectors in the short term leasing market.
Premium executive cars continue to grow in popularity
Whilst 4 door saloon car volumes have generally declined, at the higher end of the market we have seen prestige exec cars such as the Mercedes C Class and Audi A4 increase in popularity and predict further growth of premium executive cars in 2016 thanks to their reputation as reliable company cars. The BMW 3 series, as always, we predict will be a firm fleet favourite with many business owners and managers.
Green vehicles here to stay
With an increasing focus on companies implementing new environmental policies, we expect to see fun-orientated yet eco-friendly cars such as the Fiat 500 and Toyota Aygo become more popular options for businesses. Not only are they at the lower end of the emissions scale, they look cool and they’re also budget friendly!
